Good tidings of great joy

When the angel appeared to the shepherds on the night of Jesus’ birth in the fields outside Bethlehem he said “Do not be afraid, for behold I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people”. He had come to announce the birth of the Saviour of the world. This is not just a nice Christmas message. It is not something just to be remembered or celebrated once a year. This was good news for all time – the best news we could ever have: Jesus, the Son of God had been born. Joseph was told by an angel to call Mary’s baby “Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins”. The name “Jesus” literally means “Saviour”. We have all sinned and therefore we all need a Saviour. We may consider a special person in our lives as our saviour if they have influenced us, protected us or guided us away from disaster but they cannot save us from our sin – only Jesus can do that. His salvation is freely available to all who call upon Him. If you have not done that yet, don’t delay. Ask Him today!
