Work anniversary!

At the end of January 1985 Phillip left his promising, secure employment with the Civil Service and together we leapt into the unknown.  We had been born again only two years and during that time God completely changed our values, attitudes and the direction of our lives. Phillip returned to his original desire to work for the BBC which was never realised and a vision to use the media for God’s purposes grew in our hearts.  At that time, video cameras were just becoming popular. He bought one along with a portable recorder and began to film Gospel meetings. He also sound recorded Christian speakers.  In October 1984 God spoke clearly and told him to resign. We agreed and we obeyed with fear and trembling but certainty that God had spoken. Not many people understood or approved, particularly not our parents! However, God confirmed his word and went before us to prepare the way. We were also directed to sell our house and buy better video equipment. We did not even have to get an estate agent: someone came to the door one evening and asked to buy the property! Within three months we had sold everything and a door had been opened for us to go to the Philippines to make a documentary of the work of a British evangelist. We left our few small remaining possessions with friends. When we returned to the UK we continued to work with this person for a few months but then the Lord led us into other things… It was just the beginning of an amazing journey of faith that we have been on ever since. We have travelled to far off places, eaten strange food, slept in many strange beds but through it all God has kept the promise he gave us from Mark 10:29-30 “… there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands for My sake and the gospel’s who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time – houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions – and in the age to come, eternal life”

So it is with great joy and amazement that today we celebrate thirty years of God’s faithfulness and look back at all He has done in us and through us.  In the next few months we hope to record some more of our adventures so watch this space!

Tanri’nin Egemenliginin Mujdesi!

No this isn’t bad typing – it’s ‘The Gospel of the Kingdom’ in Turkish!

Recently we were asked to do something we had never done before – dub some programmes into Turkish! It was a rush job and had to be done in time for a conference that was held last week in Turkey. One miracle was that we still had the original files on computer – usually we dispose of these when the programmes are made as they take up so much space! All the translation was done and we were sent first the graphics in Turkish and then the audio files. We only had one day to complete it! With the Lord’s help and dedicated team work from all involved it was done in time to send off to reach the people going to Turkey. So now Turkish people can receive Roy Godwin’s teaching on the Gospel of the Kingdom, Ministry of Priests and Pray like this …  in their native language! What a privilege to be involved in this project which is furthering the Kingdom of God across the world. We thank The Lord for calling us, providing the equipment and skills and enabling us to do it. This may be the start of more programmes being dubbed into more languages. People need to hear the gospel and good Bible teaching in their own language so that they can fully understand it.  “First the gospel must be preached to all nations and then the end will come” Matthew 24:14

Christians Against Poverty

Nobody wants to be poor but poverty seems to be a rising problem in the UK. An organisation called CAP is doing something practical about it with amazing results! CAP was founded in 1996 and is making a tremendous impact on people across the country. Dozens of families go debt free each week.  A local centre was recently set up in Highworth, Wiltshire and we interviewed the new manager, Kathryn Ford, to find out more.  You can watch the seven minute interview at this link: http://youtu.be/dtXr0C3bjac

CAP offers its services completely free of charge and receives no government funding. People are visited in their homes and CAP takes over all responsibility for their debts and works with them to become debt free. Debt causes stress, depression, health problems, domestic strife and all sorts of other issues: it can destroy lives.  The organisation is founded on prayer and run by committed Christians but the service is for anyone and there is no pressure to convert or go to church.  Jesus came to preach good news to the poor and that is certainly what these people are doing.  Check out their website, get involved, support them, and recommend them to others. It’s a worthwhile cause!

Power to Bless

Many of us say “Bless you” to people without really thinking about it, but there is tremendous power in blessing when we speak it with faith.  The Bible says “death and life are in the power of the tongue”.  Contrary to the old saying, “sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me”, we can in fact hurt people even more with our words than with our fists. We’ve all said things in anger and haste to those around us and then regretted it later. Some of us have been permanently affected by something someone said to us; we remember it for years. We are all responsible for what comes out of our mouths; we have the power to bless and the power to curse.

Ffald-y-Brenin (Sheepfold of the King) Christian Retreat Centre in Wales teaches people how to start Local Houses of Prayer. Typically commencing in a home with 2-3 people they adopt a small local area for Jesus, worship, bless and pray for the breaking in of the Kingdom of God. Dozens of these have sprung up all over the country in the last few years with some amazing results.  God is moving! The church is being mobilised at grass roots level to take up the authority God has given.  The good news is you don’t have to be an ordained minister or a priest. This is something anyone can do. We can bring change to the world around us by following these simple principles.

Mission Accomplished!

Thank you very much for praying for Phillip during his trip to Kenya.Without your support we are sure he would never have been able to achieve what he did. It was an enormous amount of work. He sensed the effect of your prayers.

In the two weeks he completed an 8 minute promo documentary of the Disciples of Mercy ministry. This will be shown in churches around the USA when the Director goes on tour there next month. He also completed an 18 minute documentary of the impact of the Association of Faith Churches and Ministers DVD Bible College in Kenya, particularly in prisons. This will be shown at an international AFCM Conference in the USA next month. These programmes will be available to view on our You Tube channel in July.

We give thanks to God for: Being kept in good health;  All equipment kept safe and working properly;  Provision of a tripod; Strength; Wisdom; Good relationship and communication with ministry; Safe travel

You Shall Be My Witnesses

Some Christians took to the streets on a dry but chilly Saturday morning last weekend to share the message of God’s love and to proclaim their faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus. Around 150 people from all the churches of the town, young and old, joined in the march.  During the procession there were two pauses to re-enact significant events that took place as Jesus made His way to Calvary. .  Drama is such a powerful way of communicating the message: it was done very effectively.  The people watching could not fail to be moved by this faithful re-enactment of the Gospel account. It’s not very often that traffic is held up and roads blocked off so that people can walk along them! The police were very helpful in guiding and protecting the crowd. Most of the drivers, although inconvenienced for a while, were patient and co-operative. The crowd gathered at the podium in the market square to hear scripture readings and sing songs. Wouldn’t it be great if this happened in a town near you next year?! Why not start planning for it now?  Here in the UK we have the freedom to publicly proclaim our faith. Christians in many countries do not have that freedom. Let’s make the most of it!  Easter March

Prayer Trip to Israel

I was privileged to take part in the 12th IRI Prayer Summit during the last week of March.  For eight days 58 people from 12 nations across the world travelled around Israel to pray, worship and intercede for the nation. Though many of us had never met before, there was a wonderful unity as we stood together with one focus and one purpose – to be Intercessors for the Restoration of Israel. The call to be a “watchman on the wall” was fulfilled as we visited locations such as the Mount of Olives, the Pavilion Prayer Tower in Jerusalem, the Western Wall, the Knesset (Parliament), Ancient Shiloh where the Tabernacle stood for over 300 hundred years, Judea and Samaria, Galilee, Mount Carmel, the Lebanon border, Golan Heights and the Syrian border. We did not go to sightsee, but to pray and cry out to God to “Save His People” according to our theme song “Ana Adonai Hoshiana”.  The Lord is indeed restoring the land and the people and He will not rest till it is complete.

Voice for Justice UK

You may have already seen our VfJ advert and a talk given by Lynda Rose on “Empowerment or Exploitation?”  Here at last is an interview with Lynda, the Director of Voice for Justice, explaining the vision, values and aims of this worthy organisation:  http://youtu.be/7wJXOyW9COs

Increasingly in our society we are seeing freedoms eroded, individuals abused, the right to speak curtailed and religious liberty under threat. VfJUK has been formed to defend the voiceless, speak truth to power and uphold justice, standing on the original articles of the 1948 Declaration of Human Rights. They take a particular interest in trafficking – a fast growing form of modern day slavery, but are also concerned for the defence of the unborn and the protection of elderly. They are motivated by a love and respect for every individual and fight for all who are marginalised, vulnerable, or exploited.  They work with the government and advise on new legislation. Their biblical worldview underpins everything they do and can be summed up in Amos 5:24 “… let justice flow like a river and righteousness as an ever-flowing stream…” Righteousness, justice and truth are indeed the bedrock of society – if we lose them, the foundations begin to disintegrate. Jewish Roots

At last October’s Feast of Tabernacles in London, the guest speaker, Myles Munroe brought a powerful message on unity and reconciliation. God’s plan is to bring Jew and Gentile together.  Abraham was never told by God to start a religion but to found a nation. What God wants is for His kingdom to come on the earth.  The root of the church was Jewish and the gospel began to be preached from Jerusalem on the day of Pentecost.  However, within a few hundred years, the root was moved from Jerusalem to Rome… God wants to restore His church to the root. This is Good News that we all need to hear! See our clip at http://youtu.be/tfL4Iuelrs4  You can order the full set of DVDs through www.josephstorehouse.co.uk
